Corben Hyatt – Head Coach, Offensive Line – This is Corben’s 5th year with the Storm, and 1st as Head Coach. Corben played football at McMinnville High School and Walla Walla Community College before transferring to Western Oregon. Corben is the Executive Director for a nonprofit organization, The Office Group, that helps students prepare and organize for college. Corben and his wife Kristal have been in Bend a little over 5 years.
Tony Graziani – Associate/JV Head Coach, Quarterbacks – Tony is in his 5th year coaching for the Storm. He played football, basketball and baseball at Downey High School in Modesto, California. He then went on to play quarterback at the University of Oregon leading the team to the Rose and Cotton Bowls. He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons and played for the Cleveland Browns, LA Avengers and Philadelphia Soul during his 14-year professional career. He is married to Sarah and has 3 children, Ben, Will and Ava. He is an agent with Century Insurance. Tony considers himself the best golfer and athlete on the Summit staff.
Drew Bledsoe – Offensive Coordinator – Drew is entering his 5th season as a coach. He attended Walla Walla High School and played college football at perennial powerhouse WSU before embarking on a 14-year NFL career with the Patriots, Bills and Cowboys. He has a wonderful, beautiful wife named Maura and 4 excellent students; Stuart, John, Henry and Healy. In his spare time, Drew maintains various business interests including Doubleback Winery in Walla Walla. Hobbies include skiing, golf, biking and water skiing.
Scott Clements – Defensive Coordinator – Currently a PE teacher at Highland Elementary. He is entering his 21st year of coaching football, 13th at Summit. He is a proud OSU alumni (GO BEAVERS). He has no children, but does have an amazing dog. He is excited about being part this team and is looking forward to continuing to see it grow into a top-class program.
J.D. Johnson – Special Teams Coordinator – J.D. joins the Summit Storm after 19 seasons as a football coach at the college and professional development level. J.D. will help out on the defensive side of the ball and with special teams. The majority of his career has been as a defensive coordinator and 2 stints as a Head Coach (Feather River College and the Florida Blacktips of the FXFL). Previous stops included Colorado State University, Southern Oregon University, UW-Stout, Nichols College, Loras College and Saint Mary’s College of California. J.D. has had the privilege to coach several all-conference and all-American players at their respected levels and has coached 17 players that have gone on to the professional ranks at the NFL, CFL & Arena League. Coaching is in his blood as his father was a High School football coach and teacher in Colorado and Wyoming for 40 years. As a player J.D. was a defensive back and special teams player at the University of Northern Colorado, where in his senior season the Bears won the Division II National Championship. J.D. and his beautiful wife Jeni have 2 daughters, Ren and Cali, 1 son Jack and their lab Cooper. The whole Johnson family are diehard Red Sox fans and enjoy trekking out in search of waterfalls throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Jay Brandt – JV Offensive Line – Jay has been coaching football in Bend, OR for the past 10 years, first at Cascade Middle School and then for the last 8 years at Summit High School. He wrestled and played center in football for 10 years in Idaho and finished at Borah High School, winning the state championship in 1982. Jay also played rugby while attending the University of Idaho. He utilizes the work ethic and what his coaches taught him about perseverance in his personal and business life every day. Jay is a Sales Associate for the Pacific Northwest Golf Association and is a competitive indoor rower. Jay is married to his best friend Cynthia and they have two amazing children, Josh and Emma.
Dan Ruhl – Running Backs -This is Dan’s 3rd year on the Summits staff. Dan went to Rex Putnam HS where he was a 3-sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from Lewis & Clark College where he continued to play football and baseball. While at Lewis & Clark, Dan was a 3-time All American running back and earned All American honors as a shortstop in baseball. Dan has coached football and baseball for the past 13 years at all different age levels and says that the greatest reward in coaching is being a part of something bigger than yourself, and teaching life lessons through the sport. Dan and his beautiful wife Jessica have 3 amazing kids: Dawson, Dylan and Avery. Dan spends most of his spare time coaching his kids in whatever they play, and building memories with his family and friends. His motto in life is, “Wherever you are……..Be there!”
Jake Hermeling – Tight Ends – Jake grew up in Bend where he graduated Summit in 2006 and went on to play for the OSU Beavers. Now enjoying life back in his hometown, he’s married to his beautiful wife Rebecca and together they’re raising their newborn son Lincoln. Jake works as a real estate agent with a local brokerage and offers buying, selling and investing advice on his blog at jakesellsbend.com. He’s excited to invest in the next generation of athletes and wants to see Summit in the playoffs again this season! Go Storm!
Robb Thomas – Wide Receivers – Robb is returning for his 9th year coaching at Summit. He attended Corvallis High School and played for the 1983 State Championship football team. In college, he had the privilege to be a student and play wide receiver for the Oregon State Beavers. That invaluable foundation helped him stay employed in the NFL from 1989 to 1998 with the Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He and his amazing wife Melinda have 3 kids; Cole, Alexa and Brandon. When Robb is not working to help folks get a mortgage to buy or refinance their homes, he likes to mountain and road bike, golf, hike and read books.
Troy Bailey –Defensive Line – This is Troy’s 1st year with the Summit coaching staff. He has lived in Bend for 12 years and trades lumber for Plateau Forest Products. Troy and his wife Robin have three sons, Jackson (14), Brady (11) and Kellen (9). When not working or coaching, Troy enjoys golfing and fishing with his family and friends.
Craig Smith –Defensive Backs – Craig is in his third year coach at Summit. He is the Director of Development for a private real estate and development company based in Bend. Craig is excited for another opportunity to coach and impact the lives of young student athletes. Craig and his wife Meg have two boys, Campbell and Grant. When he is not in the office or on the football field, Craig enjoys spending time with family and friends enjoying the Central Oregon outdoors.
Mike Zacha – Kickers – Mike was born and raised in Mid-Michigan and has been a Bend resident since 2005. He was a four-year starter (19931996) for the Albion College Britons, in Albion, Mi., a member of the 1994 Division III National Championship Football Team and currently holds the record for most consecutive starts (43) at Albion College where football dates back to 1884. The Brits were 40-3 during his 4 seasons as a starter. Today he co-owns Fortress Financial Services, Inc. here in Bend, Oregon. They employ 25 people locally and represent both businesses and individuals who have back tax debts with the various states and the IRS. Mike enjoys hunting big game, snowboarding, snowmobiling, road biking, traveling and spending time with his wife Lauren and their two sons Brody (4) and Griffin (2).
Jay Tobias – Freshman Head Coach – This is Jay’s 3rd year coaching for Summit. He is President of Katahdin Financial Group. Jay and his wife Julie have three sons, Jack, Grant and Hank and a collie named Meg. When not in the office, Jay spends more time outdoors than in the house. Jay loves backcountry hiking and skiing; trail running with Meg; mountain and road biking and traveling with his family.
Tim Brines – Freshman Assistant/Defensive Coordinator – This is Tim’s second year on the Summit coaching staff. His 15 years of football coaching experience includes youth, middle school and high school/varsity levels. Tim is a graduate of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma Washington. At Puget Sound he was a member of the football team. Logger Up! While at Shelton High School in Washington he was active in football, wrestling, baseball and powerlifting. Born and raised in Washington state he and his family have lived in Bend for 15 years after living in Omaha, Nebraska and Austin, Texas. His wonderful wife of 20 years, Krista, is a teacher and the activities director at Mt. View High School. She’s a proud Cougar and supportive Storm parent. Together they are raising 3 sons-twin brothers Beau and Will (Summit freshmen) and Cal (5th grade). When able to make time, reading, writing, music and camping are enjoyed. One of these years several books he is writing will be either completed or officially declared a lost cause.
Orlando Garcia – Freshman Assistant – This is Orlando’s first year as a coach. He was a 3-year varsity football player for the Storm. He will attend COCC full-time in the fall. He has a younger brother, Jason, attending Mt. Hood Community College and his biggest fan is his mother, Maria.
Cam Miller – Freshman Assistant – This is Cam’s 1st year coaching for Summit. Cam is newlywed, and he and his wife, KayLee, and just moved to Bend from Nashville, Tennessee with their golden doodle, Gibson. Cam was the captain of the men’s basketball team at Lipscomb University, a D1 program out of Nashville, where he also earned his degree in financial markets. Cam currently works at Katahdin Financial Group. He enjoys playing pick-up basketball and exploring all the outdoor activities that Bend has to offer.
